About Michael
My appreciation of furniture started at a young age. My parents were antique dealers. Jack, my father, restored Early American Shaker and Period Furniture. Learning about proportion, Period joinery, and furniture styles, I developed the skills I would utilize later in life.
My career as a master furniture maker and designer, began after I graduated with a degree in Art History and Studio Art from the University of Vermont. While in college, I started a business with my parents (Jack and Linda) and my older sister Meghan. McGuire Family Furniture Makers and Vermont Clock Co. was rooted in Shaker reproductions, and the clocks were inspired by New England Grandfather Clocks. We developed wholesale accounts selling to retail stores whom specialized in selling American Reproduction Furniture. We also exported the Collection of Shaker Furniture to a group in Germany, “All American Furniture” whom resold furniture to specialty stores in Europe.
Jack, my life long best friend died from a long battle with cancer in 2020. Today, I work at my business, continuing to build furniture from the McGuire Family Shaker Furniture Collection, as well as Custom Furniture, spanning many styles, including Modern. Some of the pieces of furniture we built as a family in the early 90’s are realizing auction prices above the original suggested retail. Linda, my mother has continued to be a great help with my business.
I use time tested traditional joinery, mortise and tenon, dovetailed drawers, and other details which are often overlooked in a fast pace, instant gratification world we live in today. Fortunately, there are people that appreciate handcrafted, solid wood Shaker Furniture, Modern and other furniture styles.
After living in Vermont most of my life, I decided to move to Tennessee in 2019. My parents bought a property in 2012, giving me an opportunity to visit Tennessee. I appreciate a rural life, rolling hills and the beautiful Tennessee countryside. In 2021, I built a new workshop and my home, and I am proud to say it is my Tennessee homestead!
Please look at my website at some of the furniture I have handcrafted. Some designs are a collaboration of family and myself. Contact me if you are interested in working with us.

“We met Mike at a Craft Show in Waterford, Virginia. We later contacted him to see if he made office furniture, modeled after Shaker’s simplicity. After emailing back and forth, we had a design ready to be made. When it was delivered, we were so grateful of the design, and the quality craftsmanship….”
