Details:

• Solid Wood Posts 2-3/4” x 2-3/4” or 3-3/4” x 3-3/4” square made from actual rough planks, kiln dried (we don’t glue up our bed posts) We use full 3” and 4” planks that are kiln dried for your bed posts, NO GLUED up Post Material at MMHF.

• Solid Wood Rails Standard rails are 1-3/4” Thick x 5-1/2”Tall rails, Custom beds can be 1-3/4'“ x 5-1/2” to 10” Tall rails.

• All beds are made entirely from the Wood Species you choose. Example: Cherry posts, then rails and Headboard are Cherry. Curly Maple bed posts have Maple Rails and Curly Maple Head Board.

• Solid Wood Headboard standard height 18-20” tall

• Bed bolt construction used on all beds, see Bed Construction, time tested construction.

• Solid Brass or Solid Wood Bed Bolt Covers

• Heavy duty slat supports and slats

• buy the bed for either Platform Setup or Boxspring and Mattress Setup, some low post b with turned legs can only be Platform Setup.

Shaker Pencil Post Beds, Shaker Low Post Beds and Custom Beds

Shaker furniture’s simplicity has been in vogue for over a century. Our Shaker Pencil Post beds and Low Post beds represent the best and authentic beds on the market. We use 3” and 4” rough wood planks sawn at the mill and air dried then kiln dried to 7-8% moisture content. The rails are milled from 2” rough stock and joined to 1-3/4” thick rails by 5-1/2” tall rails, some beds rails are taller. Our rails are made from the same wood species as the posts, for example a Walnut bed with Walnut bed posts have rails and headboard made from solid Walnut. Custom Beds are designed in house from your pictures supplied or designed from your ideas and designed by Mike.

Bed Construction: Beds can be made as a platform or boxspring and mattress setup. Most Modern mattresses today range from 6-12 inches tall and work best with a Platform setup (doesn’t require a Boxspring). Platform Bed setup can either be Solid Wood slats 3” wide with 1” of spacing between the slats and made from Poplar. or the bed can have two or one sheet of 1/2” Birch Plywood set on top of eight slats. All of our Queen and King beds have a center board support which supports the slats that stretch from side to side rail. the center support is bolted into the head and foot rail and also have 2 legs that support the center board at 1/3 and 2/3 spacing.
